Gentle Chiropractic – Activator Methods

Chiropractic treatments that use an activator are often described as low force or gentle techniques.  Instead of the chiropractor manually moving/adjusting the joint, a small handheld device called an activator is used.  The activator is spring loaded and designed to deliver a fast, and precisely targeted impulse adjustment to a specific area to mobilise a joint.

Activator chiropractic methods are fast, effective and gentle making it ideal for general practice but specifically useful for treating pregnant women, children and the elderly.

The activator method is one of the most widely-researched chiropractic techniques and is the only instrument adjusting technique with clinical trials to support its efficacy.

Manual Adjusting Chiropractic

Manual adjusting is most commonly referred to as ‘cracking’ but is also known as SMT – spinal manipulative therapy or diversified technique.  This is one of the most universally recognised chiropractic treatments.

It involves manual manipulation of the spine and is commonly referred to as ‘cracking’.  When using this technique it is common to hear or feel a release of gas from the fluid of the joint which makes a cracking sound.

Despite the sounds that may be generated, when performed with the skilled hands of a chiropractor, it is usually a relatively painless procedure that can give immediate relief.

Pain Neutralisation Technique – Making Life Comfortable

Pain Neutralisation Technique (PNT) uses the bodies reflex system to treat contraction knots and tightness in the muscles.  It is a gentle, low force trigger point treatment that works by stimulating a specific neurological reflex which causes the muscle to relax reducing pain and tightness. Visit our Pain Neutralisation page for more information.
